Slow Travel Sri Lanka 10-Day Journey
Rather than a new hotel every night, this ten-day journey gives most places two. Linger by the Negombo lagoon, cycle between Anuradhapura's stupas, climb Sigiriya in the cool of early morning and Kandy at dusk, ride the train to Ella and finish on Galle's sea-facing ramparts.

Overview
Many itineraries try to cover Sri Lanka in a rush of one-night stays. This one does the opposite, giving two nights to most stops so you wake up without a suitcase to pack and have time for the small things: a morning market, a temple visit without a schedule, an afternoon spent reading on a veranda.
It begins gently in Negombo, near the airport, with its lagoon, fish market and old Dutch canal. Anuradhapura is best explored by bicycle over two easy days, followed by Sigiriya, where you can climb the rock fortress one morning and walk through paddy villages the next. Kandy brings the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and the botanical gardens at Peradeniya, and then a full day on the train carries you through tea country to Ella for two nights of walks and views. The final drive heads south to Galle for a first afternoon inside the Fort.
The route, pace and choice of hotels are shaped around you, and nothing is reserved until you are happy with the plan and have confirmed it.
