About Negombo
Negombo is a fishing town on the west coast, a short drive from Bandaranaike International Airport, which makes it a popular first or last night in Sri Lanka. Its large lagoon supports a traditional fishing community, and outrigger canoes and the morning fish market are part of daily life.
The town has a strong Catholic heritage — it is sometimes called “Little Rome” for its many churches — and the Hamilton (Dutch) Canal, dug in the colonial period, runs south towards Colombo.
