Northern to Eastern Sri Lanka 8-Day Journey
This journey links two regions that most itineraries keep apart. Spend three days among Jaffna's kovils, lagoons and the wild ponies of Delft island, then follow the coast road to Trincomalee's harbour, Pigeon Island's reefs and the calm, shallow bay at Pasikuda.

Overview
Jaffna feels distinct from the rest of the island, and that is a large part of its appeal. The peninsula’s Hindu kovils, Dutch fort, palmyra-lined lanes and fiery cuisine set it apart, and the islands offshore add another layer. Delft, reached by ferry, is a flat, windswept island of coral-stone walls, an ancient baobab and wild ponies descended from horses kept there in colonial times.
From the north, the road follows the eastern coast south through Mullaitivu and Pulmoddai to Trincomalee, where the Koneswaram temple stands above the sea and Fort Frederick guards the harbour. Nilaveli’s long beach and the coral of Pigeon Island National Park are close at hand. The journey ends further south at Pasikuda, whose reef-protected bay is calm and shallow, a gentle place to unwind after a week of exploring.
The route is timed for the drier months, when both the north and the east are at their best.
Think of this as a draft: the route, pace and hotels are tailored around your dates and preferences, and no booking is made until you confirm.
