About Trincomalee
Trincomalee lies on one of the finest natural deep-water harbours in the world, on Sri Lanka’s north-east coast. The Koneswaram Temple, an important Hindu shrine, stands on Swami Rock above the sea, and Fort Frederick occupies the headland below it.
North of the town, the beaches of Uppuveli and Nilaveli face Pigeon Island National Park, known for snorkelling over coral reefs. The east coast is at its best during the south-west monsoon months, when the west and south coasts are wetter.
