Colombo City and West Coast 3-Day Tour
Step into Pettah's crowded lanes and the capital engages every sense at once, from hawkers calling out prices to the candy-striped Red Mosque and kites over Galle Face Green at sunset. Travellers explore the colonial core and temples on foot, then slip north to Negombo for its fish market and lagoon boat rides.

Overview
Many visitors only pass through Colombo, but a couple of unhurried days reveal a lively, layered capital. The old Fort district mixes colonial landmarks such as the restored Dutch Hospital and the Old Parliament with gleaming new towers, while next door Pettah is a maze of wholesale markets where each street seems to specialise – textiles here, spices there. The red-and-white Jami Ul-Alfar Mosque, completed in the early twentieth century, is one of the city’s most photographed buildings.
South of the centre, Gangaramaya Temple overflows with eclectic treasures, and the Seema Malaka, designed by Geoffrey Bawa, floats on Beira Lake. The National Museum and Independence Square add depth, before evening brings the seafront promenade of Galle Face Green and its street-food stalls.
The journey ends in Negombo, a fishing town just north of the city. Early-morning auctions at the Lellama fish market, boat rides along the lagoon and the old Hamilton Canal, and the painted ceiling of St Mary’s Church make a relaxed finale close to the airport.
Treat this as a framework: the route, pace and hotels are tailored to each traveller, and nothing is reserved until you give the go-ahead and confirm.
