Eastern Coast Escape 6-Day Tour
While rain clouds gather over the west, Pasikuda's water stays clear and shallow far out from shore. This east-coast journey runs from the cliff-top Koneswaram Temple at Trincomalee to the lagoons of Batticaloa, with snorkelling at Pigeon Island, lazy beach days and fishing canoes drifting home at dusk.

Overview
From May to September, while monsoon rains reach the west, the east coast enjoys its calm, sunny season. The journey begins in Trincomalee, set around one of the world’s largest natural harbours. The Koneswaram Temple stands on Swami Rock high above the sea, reached through the gates of Fort Frederick, where spotted deer wander among the old buildings. North of town, Nilaveli’s long beach faces Pigeon Island National Park, where snorkellers find reef fish, corals and sometimes blacktip reef sharks.
Driving south along the coast, the road reaches Pasikuda and Kalkudah, where a reef-sheltered bay keeps the water shallow and warm far from shore – ideal for unhurried swimming. Further on, Batticaloa sits among lagoons, with a Dutch-era fort, a lighthouse at the lagoon mouth and local tales of ‘singing fish’ heard from the Kallady bridge on still, moonlit nights.
Whale watching off Trincomalee is possible in season, roughly March to August, though sightings vary, and every stop has its own blend of Tamil, Muslim and Sinhala culture.
The route, pace and hotels shown here are a starting point to be shaped around your interests; nothing is booked until you have confirmed the itinerary.
