How the Lagna is read
The Lagna is the first house of the chart. The other eleven houses are counted from it, so the same planet rules different houses for each Lagna — which is why a planet that is favourable for one Lagna can be difficult for another.
Each Lagna page lists the ruling planet, the yogakaraka, which houses every planet rules, the lucky day, colour and gem, the Moon in that sign and the nakshatras that fall in it.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find my Lagna?
The Lagna changes roughly every two hours, so you need the birth date, the time to the minute and the place. Enter them in the free LankaLux Astro birth chart tool and it shows your Lagna and its degree.
What is the difference between Lagna and Moon sign?
The Lagna is the sign rising at birth — the body and life direction. The Moon sign (rashi) is where the Moon was — the mind and feelings. Transit forecasts are usually read from the Moon sign.
