Ayurveda Wellness Consultation

A cup of herbal tea, the gentle pressure of fingertips on the wrist and questions about your sleep, diet and daily rhythm open this consultation. Meet a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner and learn how this traditional system views your constitution.

Overview

Ayurveda has been practised in Sri Lanka for many centuries alongside the island’s own indigenous tradition, Hela Wedakama, and it remains part of the country’s formal system of traditional medicine, with practitioners trained and registered nationally. A consultation is a calm, personal introduction to how this traditional system understands the body and wellbeing.

At a selected Ayurvedic centre, a qualified practitioner talks with you about your lifestyle, diet, sleep and energy, and may use traditional methods such as pulse reading (nadi pariksha) to describe your constitution in terms of the three doshas: vata, pitta and kapha. You leave with an explanation of what this means in Ayurvedic terms and gentle, traditional suggestions around food, routine and rest. If you wish, the consultation can lead into a relaxing treatment such as abhyanga, a full-body oil massage, or shirodhara, a steady stream of warm oil across the forehead.

Good to know

  • Ayurveda is a traditional practice, not a substitute for medical care; continue any prescribed medicines and tell the practitioner about health conditions, allergies, pregnancy or medication.
  • Morning appointments are traditionally preferred for pulse reading, ideally before a heavy meal.
  • Wear comfortable clothing; if a treatment follows, allow time to relax afterwards, as oil stays in the hair and skin.
  • Ask for any herbal preparations to be explained clearly; there is no obligation to buy products.

The consultation can be added to any private itinerary, with timing arranged around your travels and preferred centre.
